    REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)

    I sleep for about two hours at a time before waking, and the sleep I get isn't normal. I live in a small apartment with my mother (I am 50) She has been recording me when she hears me talking in my sleep. I often yell, curse, sob, talk (babble talk) and it will go on for several minutes. It usually wakes me up but not always. As soon as I drift off, I have vivid intense dreams. If I am emotional in the dream, angry, afraid, sad etc. I will speak out loud whatever I am saying in my dream.

    "REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), the paralysis that normally occurs during REM sleep is incomplete or absent, allowing the person to "act out" his or her dreams.


    This is the only disorder that I found that comes close to what I experience. It is very draining and I am always tired. It would be nice if I could post one of these recordings to offer a good laugh, but to see if anyone has ever heard of this. I have an appointment on April 1st for a sleep study. I am hoping that they will be able to offer some treatment that works.

    I have issues falling asleep. I found an article by Insomnia Specialist Dr. Gregg Jacobs, and it really helped me. He preaches CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Little changes to your daily routine have a huge effect on your sleep patterns. I learned to only use my bed for sleep. Doing work in bed for example trains the brain to stay awake rather than fall asleep.

    It helped, but I soon fell into bad habits again. I recently found a 5 week program by Dr.Gregg Jacobs which really helped me. Having a program kept me disciplined, and it has so many great tips. I am sleeping much more regularly now. I would highly recommend it!

    You should try using a sleep tracker to find the pattern of your sleep and share that with your doctor. I'm sure it can be useful as a first step. I found this one that is a non-wearable so it should be easier to use: eightsleep.com. Unfortunately it's still in pre-orders but might be worth a look.

    Thank you for your tips. Unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with RBD, I will have to be on medication for an undetermined time. I am having an extensive sleep study as well as seeing a neurologist. Only 1% of the population has this disorder and 40% of these people go on to develop Parkinsons Disease. Sleep consists of Wakefulness to REM sleep to Non REM sleep. I don't transistion from one to the other correctly and I lack Muscle paralysis which causes me to Act out my dreams. It is more verbal than action oriented, foul language spews from my mouth. Like I need an Exorcism. LOL So, I will keep you posted as my treatment continues.

    Thank you! Please check out REM Behaviour disorder to see what it is about. I had never heard of it, Dr. has diagnosed me 100% accuracy with this.
