    Hip area injury
    An_227323 posted:
About 4 months ago I injured some hip area muscles when stepping down from a moving-truck. The step down was much higher than I realized (probably at least 3 feet off the ground) and as my back leg remained on the truck while stepping down, I pulled some muscles. The soreness seemed to heal after a week or so. Then about a month later I recommenced a regular exercise routine. The first few times after running I felt a throbbing pain in the right side of the right glute and also the hip area, which I would ice to alleviate. Now I don't notice throbbing pain after running, but I still have pain / weakness in that area during certain movements, such as plie squats or when lying down in bed and turning from the left side to the right, side leg lifts, etc. Is this something that should gradually get better on its own? Are there any specific exercises I should do to strengthen it, or avoid?

I second this question as I am also experiencing similar hip pain and discomfort when I lay on my back/butt. I don't know what I did. My chiropractor diagnosed a pinched nerve in the hip but it is taking months of my special exercises to remove symptoms. Some days my hip/butt feel really pinched.

Have you seen a doctor about your injury? How old are you? How active in general are you?

Here are some links regarding hip pain and when to see the doctor as well as home treatment.

I am 32. I work out 4 times a week (2 days circuit training, 2 days running/elliptical). Do a lot of yard work / landscaping on weekends. Haven't seen a doctor about it yet but am planning to get it looked at during my next visit in a month.

    Thanks for the references.

Louise, I have been seeing my doctor. She diagnosed the pinched nerve and recommended the chiropractor. It just takes a while for nerves to regenerate and I keep up with the prescribed gentle exercises 2x day.

Those links were terrific! Thank you. Really liked the hip problems age 12 and older topic overview. Thanks!
